PERFORMER

2020 - present
Currently, Jelle is focused on CO-LAB, a performance collective of Latin American and European artists founded in 2020 and based in Berlin, Germany. The collective aims to bring performance art closer to the audience and to give new meaning and interpretation to urban environments, by performing contemporary dance & live music in the public space.
The members of CO-LAB are Francisco Martínez, Jelle De Wit and Thomas Mayer.
BLUE is a 15-minute performance, created during a pandemic lockdown and moved by uncertainty. We locked ourselves in a rehearsal room, and felt a necessity to present work in the public space; within these conditions BLUE was born. Our starting point was the blue hour, the moment when the day ends and darkness sets in, a moment of transition and transformation. Two dancers start performing synchronised and repetitive movements, which are then transformed by and with live music. These movements come from inside our bodies, but throughout the performance they resonate outwards, and have a transformative effect on the environment. What was once an urban space gains a different meaning through the performance, creating an "urban harmony" between music, body and space

DIRECTOR
As a director, Jelle is inspired by the concept of Bricolage. Le bricoleur is a savage mind who loves putting pre-existing things together in entirely new ways. Rough material - bits of text, music, movement scores or objects - enter into a dialogue with the performers and stories take shape.
Jelle likes to use improvisation exercises and observe how performers interact with each other and with the material. In his mind, the material is very much alive and part of the dialogue, functioning as another actor or performer on stage.
